Kilema route is the only route that Bike trek to Kilimanjaro can reach to the top by mountain bike. Our experienced guides have done a good number of successful bike treks to summit Mt Kilimanjaro 5895M. The trip took 6 days with proper acclimatisation and arrival day. This activity provides physical exercise and recreational use of the natural environment with minimum impact while enhancing visitors’ experience. Summit bound visitors will use Kilema route (19km) and cyclists will meet their porters at Horombo and continue to the summit.

Description

Kilema route is the only route that Bike trek to Kilimanjaro can reach to the top by mountain bike. Itinerary

Day 1

Arrival day

Our staff will meet you at the airport with a warm welcome to Tanzania. We will introduce ourselves before handing you a gift. You will then drive to our hotel.

After arriving at the hotel, be welcomed with a refreshment. After checkin you will have some time to freshen up before a briefing and chat about the wildlife safaris, necessary things to carry and the general things to do during the safari.

Enjoy a relaxing evening until we meet you again in the morning ready to drive to Serengeti nation

Day 2

Marangu/Kilema Gate – Horombo Hut

An early start to the day, you will be collected from your hotel at 7:00 am, This morning we drive through Kilimanjaro’s semi-tropical foothills to Marangu Gate.

Spend some time with your registrations and getting you your permit.

We will then drive to Kilema gate and enter Kilimanjaro National park and start the ride Up to Horombo H.

Today is 100% cycling by bike. Cycling distance 19km Vegetation: Forest and Moorland.

Day 3

Full Day Horombo Acclimatization

After breakfast you start your cycling, riding through the Alpine desert, some of the areas you will be riding on small stones, up to Mawenzi Hut and back to Horombo. On the way, you will pass deep through the villages and experience the life of the locals.

Today is 90% riding. Cycling distance: 10 Km Vegetation: Alpine desert

Day 4

Ride from Horombo to Kibo Hut (4703m)

Today we will continue with riding to Kibo Hut, the ride will be mostly on small stoney gravel roads.

We'll pass through five different vegetation zones as we ascend from the lowest to the highest point: Lower slopes, montane forest, heath and moorland, alpine desert and summit rock and ice, which makes an ascent of this magical mountain even more special.

Cycling today is 90%. Vegetation: Alpine Desert.

Day 5

Kibo Hut – Summit (5895 M) – Horombo Hut (3720 M)

At 4 am, you will be awakened by your guides to start the zigzag trek up a long screen slop.

After roughly two hours you should reach Hans Meyer’s Cave and from here the gradient gets steeper. Continue your climb for approximately another 3 hours to Gilman’s Point.

You will take your bike from Porters and start riding to Uhuru peak, you will have the chance to admire the view and capture those memorable photos before riding down to Stella Point. After lunch, ride down to Horombo.

Today cycling: Kibo to Uhuru and then Kibo 15%-20% and Kibo to Horombo 100%. Vegetation: Alpine desert /Icecap

Day 6

Horombo Hut (3720 M) –Kilema gate (1800 M)

After a leisurely breakfast, make your final ride down to Kilema gate across the alpine and the rainforest to Kilema gate, then you will be transferred to Marangu gate for check out and then to Gold-Crest Hotel.
