Itinerary

Day 1-2

Langebaan

Langebaan is a water sports lover's paradise with almost year-round sunshine and safe waters. This is especially true for kite surfers, wind surfers, kayakers, yachtsmen, water skiers and fishermen. Aside from migrant birds, there are a number of resident species, such as flamingos, on the tidal mudflats of the lagoon.

The picturesque, modern town borders onto the scenic West Coast national Park, which may not have the Big Five but does have the Slow Five: tortoises, whales, sand sharks, porcupines and dune moles Eland, wildebeest, hartebeest, bontebok, springbok, kudu and mountain zebra can also be seen mostly in the Postberg section of the park. Open from August through September, this section of the park displays rainbow-colored spring flowers with wildlife roaming among them. Biking through the West Coast National Park to observe wildlife. West Coast National Park is also known for having the oldest footprint of a modern human, Eve's Footprint. Day 3-4

Visit St Helena as you head towards Paternoster

Birdwatchers will enjoy St Helena Bay's position at the southernmost tip of the migratory route from Europe and the Steppes of Russia, making it a must-see destination. The peaceful waters make for a perfect spawning ground for Heaviside's dolphins, other dusky and common dolphins, as well as southern right whales that mate and calve in the second half of the year. The whales that frequent the area include the killer whale and the humpback whale. Beautiful, unspoiled, and long, white beaches line the shoreline; walkers and beachcombers enjoy exploring the area. Granite boulders form an impressive backdrop to the town. Paternoster is the oldest fishing village on the West Coast. Life here is closely tied to the sea. In the village, there are also many talented local artists exhibiting their paintings, sculptures, pottery, and photography in numerous galleries and shops. There are many excellent restaurants on the beach that are perfect for foodies. Paternoster's enticing attractions include sunsets over the sea, long walks along the 8 km long, white sandy beach of Langstrand, seal and penguin watching, evening fires, and seafood braai's/BBQ. A view of the village and beyond is available by climbing the lighthouse.

Day 5

Piketberg

Piketberg was established in 1836 when the farm Grotefontein was given to the church council. A neo-gothic style cathedral with beautiful window patterns and plastered panels stands in the old town, the centerpiece of which still stands today. Its unique quality comes from its relationship to its mountain range, the Piketberg Mountain range, which stands alone, surrounded by wheat fields that change yellow and gold with the seasons, vineyards, fruit farms, and stunning examples of indigenous fynbos plants. A relaxing destination rich in history, this is the perfect place to start your West Coast explorations. While on the Swartland wine route, discover the region's best wines and olives. The Swartland wine route stretches from Darling on the west coast to Oliphants Mountain at Porterville in the east, and includes Malmesbury, Riebeek Valley, and Piketberg in the north.
