Itinerary

Day 1

KIGALI CITY EXPLORATION & COFFEE EXPERIENCE

Start with a historically-minded exploration of Kigali city with visits to landmarks from colonial, post-independence, genocide and post-genocide times i.e. Kigali Genocide memorial site where over 259,000 genocide victims were put to rest in mass graves. Belgian camp where they killed the 10 Belgian UN soldiers who were protecting the moderate prime minister before the start of genocide etc.

End the day at the Question Coffee to taste the pure Rwandan coffee produced by women in cooperative.

Day 2

AKAGERA NATIONAL PARK GAME DRIVE & BOAT CRUISE

In the morning, you will be transferred to Akagera National Park. There will be a short briefing at reception before embarking a short game drive, in search of The Big 5 (including: Lions, Rhinos, Leopards, Elephants, Buffaloes plus the 12 species of antelopes such as the Eland, Cape and Roan Antelopes. For the avid birders; some of the 525-bird species might be spotted, including 4 rare birds of Akagera)

The park has much more to offer during this game drive, such as numerous Reptiles, Amphibians, Plants, magnificent landscapes, and even historical sites. This region is also home to an area with the highest concentration of birds per square kilometre than any other national park on the African continent.

Your tasty lunch will be at the lodge after check-in. In the afternoon, you will be driven to Lake Ihema for a thrilling boat cruise! Here you will have the chance to see schools of Hippos, Giant Nile crocodiles, Water birds, Buffaloes, etc.

Day 3

FULL DAY GAME DRIVE & TRANSFER TO KIGALI

After an early breakfast, we shall start a full day game drive in Akagera National Park passing through Rwanda’s phenomenal landscapes and living lifestyles. This will take you along tops of rolling hills surrounded by beautiful lakes, from the South up to the North. Enjoy hilltop views, watching 3 lakes simultaneously with Buffaloes and Elephants drinking water, while hungry Crocodiles wait.

You'll be sure to see many species of birds like Egyptian goose and Fish Eagle. Have a picnic delicious lunch in the park, before continuing your game drive. You will continue towards bushy rolling hills, up to the North exit of the park. From here you will drive back to your hotel in Kigali.

Day 4

Ibyiwacu village centre & Volcanoes National Park visit

After breakfast, we swill make our way to Ibyiwacu for a cultural village tour. At the village, you will have a wonderful, interactive experience, learning all about Rwandan traditions, cultural songs and dances. You will be given a chance to participate in these dances and drumming, all while wearing traditional “Umushanana” dress. Try your hand at shooting arrows and then witness a traditional healer's medicine show!

You will also have the opportunity to sample local food, delicious banana beer and visit a local household or school. From there we shall drive to your hotel where you will have lunch. Thereafter relax at the swimming pool viewing the stunning Lake Kivu.

Day 5

GORILLA TREKKING & TRANSFER BACK TO KIGALI

After breakfast, we make our way to the park and complete all relevant park formalities. Afterwards, we embark on a once in a life time experience of tracking mountain gorillas. Once you spot them, you are able to spend an hour watching your closest long lost cousin. This is perhaps one of the most breathtaking wildlife experiences on earth!

You get so close to these awesome giant primates. You stare at each other blankly not knowing who will break the long silence first. Tracking the gorillas through the light mountain forest on the slopes of the Virunga is truly a magical experience.

After your tasty lunch at the Lodge, you will be transferred back to Kigali and to the Airport if required.
